Scholarships

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has numerous scholarships and awards programs that their members may apply for.  Phi Kappa Phi awards approximately $1 million dollars in scholarships each biennium.  Below is a brief description of each scholarship opportunity.  For more detailed information, please visit the Phi Kappa Phi Awards page, phikappaphi.org and click Awards.

PIONEER AWARDS (50 AWARDED ANNUALLY)
Phi Kappa Phi Pioneer Awards are designed to encourage and reward undergraduate members for developing the research, engagement and leadership skills necessary to become a successful scholar. Each year, 50 $1,000 awards are distributed.

DEADLINE: June 1, 2023


FELLOWSHIPS (62 DISTRIBUTED ANNUALLY)
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi currently awards 54 Fellowships of $8,500 each, six of $20,000 each, and two of $35,000 to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Each active Phi Kappa Phi chapter may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete Society-wide.

STUDY ABROAD GRANTS (125 DISTRIBUTED ANNUALLY)
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. One hundred twenty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year.

DEADLINE: MARCH 15, 2023

 

DISSERTATION FELLOWSHIPS (15 DISTRIBUTED ANNUALLY)
The Dissertation Fellowship Program supports doctoral candidates who are in the dissertation writing stage of doctoral study. Each year, Phi Kappa Phi awards 10 Dissertation Fellowships of $10,000 each.

DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 30, 2023

 

GRADUATE RESEARCH (20 DISTRIBUTED ANNUALLY)
Grants of up to $1,500 are available to members attending graduate school to provide funding for research experiences in support of career development.

DEADLINE: November 30, 2023

 

LOVE OF LEARNING AWARDS (200 DISTRIBUTED ANNUALLY)
Love of Learning Awards help fund post-baccalaureate professional development for active Phi Kappa Phi members to including, graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development, travel related to teaching or research, and more. Two hundred awards, of $1,000 each, are distributed each year.

DEADLINE: JUNE 30, 2023

 

LITERACY GRANTS (VARIABLE NUMBER DISTRIBUTED ANNUALLY)
The Literacy Grants program was created to mobilize members and resources of Phi Kappa Phi and the higher education community to champion literacy initiatives. Grants of up to $2,500 are available to chapters and individual members to fund ongoing literacy projects or create new initiatives.

DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2023

 

MARY TODD SABBATICAL AWARD (VARIABLE NUMBER AWARDED ANNUALLY)
In honor of former Executive Director Dr. Mary Todd, the Society will honor one faculty member with a $50,000 award to support a sabbatical year or similar reassignment of duties.

DEADLINE: October 1, 2023

 

SCHOLAR & ARTIST AWARDS (ONE EACH DISTRIBUTED EVERY BIENNIUM)
The Phi Kappa Phi Scholar and Phi Kappa Phi Artist Awards honor those individuals who demonstrate the ideals of the Society through their activities, achievements, and scholarship.

DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 1 – even years

 

THE RAY SYLVESTER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD (ONE DISTRIBUTED EVERY BIENNIUM)
The Ray Sylvester Distinguished Service Award honors an individual who has provided sustained, non-compensated volunteer service to others beyond the realm of academia.

DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 1 – even years

 

EXCELLENCE IN INNOVATION AWARD (ONE AWARDED EVERY BIENNIUM)
The Excellence in Innovation Award recognizes colleges and universities for their achievements in finding powerful answers to important local, regional, national, or global challenges. The $100,000 award is given once per biennium to an institution.

DEADLINE:  DECEMBER – odd years
